Moving to 2-0 on the season, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls swim team snatched a bit of history in the course of beating Oswego 100-86 last Wednesday night at the LeMoyne College pool.
When Nicole Blidy covered the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.86, she broke a school record that had stood since 1990. It was Blidy’s only individual win of the night.
Meanwhile, Regina LaRosa took first in both the 500 freestyle (5:22.75) and 200 individual medley (2:20.16), with Kasey Simmons taking the 200 freestyle (2:10.41) and Marinda McIntyre earning first in the 100 backstroke in 1:10.68.
Chrissy Howard won the diving competition with 196.55 points, just before Amanda Telesca, Lauren Festa, Emily Altier and Jenna Ruffrage claimed the 400 freestyle relay in a clocking of 4:03.45.
As this was going on, Liverpool saw a late lead get away at Baldwinsville, taking a 51-43 loss to the Bees.
This happened despite Renee Stromski and Madison Sestak earning double wins. Sestak was first in the 200 IM (2:29.53) and 100 butterfly (1:12.58), while Stromski followed up her 200 freestyle win (2:09.85) by swimming the 500 freestyle in 5:51.45.
Becky Evangelista won the 100 freestyle in 58 seconds flat, but B’ville countered by taking all three relays and each of the last four events to finish in front. Carly Gummer led the Bees, winning the 50 freestyle (26.02 seconds) and swimming a leg in each of those relay events.
CNS takes trips to Rome Free Academy and New Hartford next week, as Liverpool hosts Nottingham on Thursday.
