Two of the area’s elite boys soccer programs had an eventful gathering before moving on to their respective leagues — knowing a rematch down the road is possible.
Fayetteville-Manlius took on Christian Brothers Academy on Sept. 12 at Alibrandi Stadium, and the Hornets would come out on top, riding a quick start to a 4-2 victory over the Brothers.
As it turned out, the start of the match made the difference. Fast and aggressive on the new Alibrandi artificial surface, F-M converted twice and seized a 2-0 lead before halftime.
CBA would strike back, getting goals from Pat Wiese and Will Bunn in the second half, but F-M kept on converting with a balanced attack that overcame Pete Anderson’s nine saves.
In fact, four different players — Mike Kutzer, Joe Mahr, Halie Marr and Jim Forbes — put in the Hornets’ goals, with Kutzer and Brian Ward adding assists.
Following that, the Hornets and Brothers both have a busy week of action ahead, with F-M playing twice (against Rome Free Academy and Liverpool) and CBA three times, taking on East Syracuse-Minoa and Fowler before hosting Nottingham Saturday as part of Homecoming weekend.
