The Camillus and Fairmount volunteer fire departments will renew a long tradition of joint training tonight when they take part in a live burn at 5308 W. Genesee St. in Camillus.
At 6:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday June 30, the departments will fight an intentionally set house fire at the house and garage located at 5308 W. Genesee St., near Dunkin’ Donuts.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend the event and show their support for local volunteers. It will also give residents a first-hand look at how firefighters put their lives on the line for their community. Parking is available at West Genesee Middle School at 500 Sanderson Drive.
Camillus Supervisor Mary Ann Coogan said the training was scheduled by Councilor Dave Callahan and the house and garage to be burned was donated by Rocklyn Development.
“It’s amazing to see great cooperation between Fairmount and Camillus, I can feel the good comradeship,” Camillus Town Councilor Bill Davern said at a recent town board meeting.
Davern also said another public safety meeting is in the works.
