Munro Park in the village of Camillus will enjoy a bigger role in the Memorial Day festivities this year when it becomes the site of a four-day carnival and community celebration.
The Memorial Day Field Days, set to run Friday May 22 through Monday May 25 is being organized by Mayor Kurt Brunger and his wife, Annie. Proceeds will help fund future improvements to the park, Brunger said, such as a creek walk or bike trail.
Installation of a creek walk along the Munro Park portion of Ninemile Creek could eventually tie into a path looping around the village as Main Street revitalization gains momentum, Brunger said in a village board meeting last month.
The fundraiser will include a carnival complete with rides and games, live music and a “food shack”, staffed entirely with volunteers. An adult comedy event is in the works one night at McNamara’s Pub, an outdoor pancake breakfast is set for Sunday and the Brungers hope to include a fireworks display, pending sponsorship.
The event will kick-off Friday and run from 5 to 10 p.m. Festivities will resume Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and run Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Volunteers are needed, call 672-3484 to sign up.
CFD to host firefighters convention
The Memorial Day Field Days will warm Camillus residents up for a second field day event in August, when the Camillus Fire Department hosts the 2009 Onondaga County Firefighters Convention at Veteran’s Memorial at Gillie Lake in August.
To help fund the convention, CFD will host three national comedy acts for its second Comedy Night at 8 p.m. Friday May 15 at the station. Beer and wine will be available for $1, in addition to a small menu.
Tickets are available for $15, call 506-9529 or e-mail [email protected].
