Even in a week where records and milestones were part of the mix, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls lacrosse team finally suffered a blemish — at the expense of its neighbors.
Christian Brothers Academy made the short trip across town last Saturday and put an end to the Red Rams’ school-record 12-game win streak, winning by a score of 12-9.
Constant pressure helped the Brothers stay out in front most of the way. CBA won a majority of the draws and kept the ball in J-D’s end most of the way, never allowing the Red Rams to get much of a respite.
And though J-D goalie Tara Prosak made 13 saves, she could not keep everything out. Katie Webster led CBA with four goals and two assists, while Natasha Grant, Taylor Gait and Sophie Raccitatti each scored twice. Michelle Wiese and Caroline Webster had single goals.
J-D saw Tori Nies put up a three-goal hat trick, while Molly Maroney found the net twice. Liz Beville, Ashriel West, Kate Byrnes and Meredith Howe each had one goal.
Earlier in the week, Phil Luckette, the Red Rams’ head coach, got his 200th career win last Tuesday afternoon when J-D ripped past Fulton 22-6.
On its way to a school-record 11th consecutive victory (and Luckette’s milestone), the Rams used double-digit goals in each half to overwhelm the Red Raiders.
Emily Johnson led with five goals and two assists as Nies and Byrnes both earned four goals and one assist. Howe had a team-best four assists.
Beville (three goals, two assists) and West (two goals, two assists) were close behind as Maroney, Morgan Freeman, Taylor Bierwagen an Lauren Swan also scored.
The Red Rams made it 12 in a row on Thursday, topping New Hartford 20-4 in a game where, once again, the production remained high all afternoon.
Byrnes and Johnson each had five goals, as Byrnes got two assists. Howe had three goals and two assists as West added two goals and three assists. Beville, Freeman and Nies each had one goal and one assist as Elbers and Ashley Thompson got goals, too.
As this was going on, CBA reveled in the chance to beat some opponents by wide margins as it built momentum toward the J-D clash.
Going to Homer last Monday night, the Brothers took the Trojans apart from start to finish in the course of a 14-3 romp.
Gait and Katie Webster outscored the entire Homer roster — Gait with a season-best five goals, Webster with four goals.
Behind them, Summer Schmitt scored twice, as Wiese earned a goal and two assists. Racciati and Caroline Webster earned goals, too. Emma Taylor recorded seven saves.
The Brothers struck again on Thursday, beating LaFayette 18-9 as Katie Webster got involved in half her team’s scoring plays, putting up six goals and three assists.
Gait, with three goals and two assists, continued to have an impact, as Racciatti and Taylor Poplawski each scored twice. Meghan Liptak, Meghan Hannan, Grant and Caroline Webster added goals.
