Twice in a span of three days, the Chittenango girls lacrosse team recorded strong victories that pushed its record to 6-7 and improved its playoff chances, too.
Going to Whitesboro last Tuesday night, the Bears were in full control all the way, beating the Warriors by a score of 16-2.
Led by Jenna Barber and Jessica Antelmi, Chittenango raced out to an 11-1 lead by halftime and kept up the torrid pace, even with a running clock in the second half.
Barber finished with four goals and three assists, while Antelmi earned three goals and two assists. Christine Stoddard scored twice, with Katie Putman adding a goal and two assists.
Maggie Kendrick and Kayla Haynes each got one goal and one assist. Emily Murray, normally the team’s goalie, scored for the first time this season, as did Nicole Fountain.
Back home Thursday night to face Fulton, the Bears nearly earned a first-half shutout and rolled past the Red Raiders 16-4.
Chittenango only allowed a single goal as it tore to a 9-1 edge, then kept it up the rest of the way as Antelmi, by herself, outscored Fulton with five goals, plus two assists.
Barber wasn’t close behind, earning two goals and three assists, while Ellen Heenan, Jamie Gibbons and Brittany McDonald each matched that two-goal output. Stoddard, Haynes and Katie Putnam each had one assist.
On Tuesday, Chittenango would aim for the .500 mark at Cortland before coming home Thursday to face Mexico.
