The Skaneateles softball team was dead-set on following up its first win of the season May 1 against Hannibal, though it didn’t prove easy.
Hosting Cazenovia last Monday at Austin Park, Skaneateles made a late push, but fell short in an 8-5 defeat to those other Lakers.
Still tied with Westhill atop the OHSL Liberty division, Cazenovia scored two runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings to seize a 6-0 lead. When Sknaeateles got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, Czenovia earned two more runs in the seventh.
Zoe Hilpl took the loss, her team managing just five hits off Cazenovia pitcher Lindsey Smith, though it included Emily Call’s triple. Erica Tardiff doubled and drove in two runs as Call also earned an RBI. For Cazenovia, Kara Stadler had a home run and two RBIs.
Still at Austin Park on Wednesday afternoon, Sknaeateles fell to Homer 9-3, a letdown after the Lakers grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning, two of the runs coming home on Erica Tardiff’s single.
Homer responded by scoring in four of the next five innings, including three-run outbursts in the third and sixth, as the Lakers committed six errors.
Skaneateles would get that second win on Thursday — in a rematch with Hannibal where a big first inning led to an 8-2 decision over the Warriors.
All the Lakers did in the bottom of the first was pick up six runs, more than enough for Hilpl as she pitched a complete game, giving up just four hits. Skaneateles had 19 hits as Emily Dveins and Jackie Leslie each got one RBI.
