What a difference 12 days can make.
That was the time period in between the two girls lacrosse games featuring Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool, and they had vast contrasts in the outcome.
Unlike its 13-11 win on April 25 at Solvay, the Northstars could never put things together in last Thursday’s rematch at Bragman Stadium, losing to the Warriors 12-7.
One constant theme throughout the night was the way that CNS got thwarted most of the times it attacked. No matter who was taking the shots, somehow Liverpool goalie Mikey Meagher came up with them, to the tune of 19 saves on the night.
That became a bigger issue because the Northstars had just one goal in the game’s first 16 1/2 minutes, enough time for Liverpool to jump out to a 5-1 edge.
CNS pushed back within three, 7-4, near the end of the first half, only to see Liverpool’s Kathleen Conese score just 9.2 seconds before the break, and the Northstars never got so close again.
Tori Praino, Ashley Caporizzo and Sarah Allen each had two goals, with Alyssa Cristaldi adding a goal and two assists. Rachel Geruso also had two assists as Ashley Waldron, accorded All-American status earlier in the week, had just one assist. Marybeth Madia (four goals, two assists) and Conese (three goals, two assists) led the Liverpool attack.
In the course of the Northstars beating Central Square 16-7 last Tuesday night, it did all kinds of good for a worthy cause.
Erin Beitz, a 16-year-old Central Square student, volleyball and softball player, and the cousin of CNS coach Brooke Bramoff, has brain cancer.
To raise money for Erin’s chemotherapy, the Central Square and CNS teams both wore white and purple jerseys (purple is Erin’s favorite color) for the game. To date, more than $45,000 has been raised for Erin’s treatment.
As to the game itself, Ashley Caporizzo and Tori Praino both had three goals, with Rachel Geruso and Ashley Waldron adding two goals apiece. Sarah Allen, Emily Bryerton, Stephany Gale and Alyssa Cristaldi scored, too.
This followed a May 1 game against Auburn where the Northstars won 19-5, getting five goals from Cristaldi as Waldron earned three goals and four assists and Geruso got three goals and two assists. Allen, Caporizzo and Bryerton each scored twice, with Praino adding a goal and two assists.
