Both of Liverpool’s track and field teams had to make trips to Utica Proctor last week, and neither of them proved simple.
The boys Warriors had plenty of high spots in last Tuesday’s visit, but not enough of them, taking a 70-67 loss to the Raiders.
Alex Wilke ran the mile in a time of 4:40.1 and also won the 3,200-meter run (10:06.1), while Colin Savage needed 2:07 to prevail at 800 meters. Anthony Brais, Chris Clemons, Zavon Watkins and Nick Hull took the 4×800 relay in 9:37.9.
Watkins, on his own, beat the field in the 400-meter dash (53.3 seconds), with Clemons running the 400 hurdles in 1:00.8. Corey Bundrage had a top time of 15.3 seconds in the 110 high hurdles.
Liverpool prevailed twice in field events, as Joe Sperynak cleared 8 feet 6 inches in the pole vault and Jason Osborne threw the shot put 43 feet 3 inches to win there.
As a recovery point, the boys Warriors went to Friday’s New Hartford Invitational (moved to Sauquoit Valley this year as the Spartans’ track gets replaced) and earned 34 points for seventh place in a field of 21.
Watkins, Clemons, Savage and Wilke tore it up in the 4×800 relay, producing the fastest Section III time of the season as they finished in 7:57.66, more than 18 seconds ahead of runner-up West Genesee.
Bundrage won the 110 high hurdles by edging Oneida star Pat McLaughlin, 15.36 seconds to 15.46, with Joe Spernyak in fourth place. Also, Bundrage would help Watkins, Clemons and Justin Albro win the sprint medley relay in 3:42.44.
A day later, the Liverpool girls team took its turn at the Rome Invitational at Rome Free Academy Stadium, gaining a string of high finishes.
And none did better than Harmony Cross, who took over the five-event pentathlon, winning with 2,522 points as Baldwinsville’s Laura Farman (2,289 points) finished second.
Chrissy Scalisi pushed her way to second place in the 400 hurdles in 1:11.3 as Utica Proctor’s Kierra Arthur won in 1:07.8. Liverpool also was second in both the 4×400 (4:20.5) and 4×100 (51.8 seconds) relays.
Armani Moore earned second in the long jump, going 15 feet 3 1/2 inches, and was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 27.4 seconds, as Nachez Brown got fifth in the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.1 seconds.
