In three different locales, Hamilton High School spirng sports teams put together strong efforts, nearly winning them all. All the baseball Emerald Knights did was shut out West Canada Valley 17-0, a game where Jordan Doroshenko allowed a hit to the Indians’ opening batter, then got the next 20 outs on his way to a one-hit shutout. Hamilton scored in each of the first four innings, then used a nine-run sixth inning to seal the matter as it improved to 4-1 on the season. Meanwhile, the softball Emerlad Knights outscored West Canada 20-10 behind the work of Jenna Whyatt, who tripled and had a home run. Katie Weeks also tripled. This only began a big weekend for the Emerald Knights, who went home to its own tournament and would roll to first place. In the opening round, Hamilton bashed Brookfield 11-0 in five innings as Samantha Martin pitched a two-hit shutout. Whyatt doubled and tripled as part of the Emerald Knights’ 10-hit attack. Later in the day, Hamilton got past Remsen 9-1 by scoring runs in five of the first six innings as Martin tripled at the plate in support of her own three-hit masterpiece. Hamilton also played boys tennis against rival Morrisville-Eaton, where the Warriors would prevail 3-2 M-E swept the doubles, where Jim Martin and Rick Widger beat Tom Bodnar and Kaleb Warner 7-5, 6-0. Henry Bataille and Ty Banker got past David Schutt and Andrew Powrie 6-4, 7-5. Over in singles, Hamilton got points when Gennady Julien beat Alex Meyers 6-1, 6-2, with Josh Valencia beating Ryan LeBlanc 6-2, 6-4. Sean Harrigan would take the decisive match, needing three sets to beat John Valencia 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, M-E lost 7-0 to Westmoreland on the baseball side and a 9-2 defeat on the softball side.
