Solvay track fights past J-E, Cazenovia

Led by Rich Salvagno, the Solvay boys track and field team pulled off a sweep of last Wednesday’s home meet against Jordna-Elbridge and Cazenovia.

It proved close on both sides, but the Bearcats beat the Lakers 80-61 and also topped the Eagles 93-48. J-E took a 75-66 defeat to Cazenovia.

Salvagno swept all three individual sprints. He ran the 100-meter dash in 11.5 seconds, took the 200-meter dash in 24.2 seconds and worked his way to victory in the 400-meter dash in 56.4 seconds.

As if that wasn’t enough, Salvagno teamed with Anthony Liquori, Conor Halton and Jeremy Parker to win the 4×400 relay in 3:44.4. Parker, Halton and Liquori combined with Chris Hoffman as they won the 4×100 relay in 46.7 seconds.

Parker, on his own, claimed the 800-meter run in 2:09.9, with Matt Fedrizzi claiming a victory in the mile in a clocking of 4:39.8. John Salvagno stepped in to post a top time of 1:05.3 in the 400 hurdles. C.J. Parker (44 feet 1 1/2 inches) held off Tom Bradley (43 feet 9 1/2 inches) to win the shot put.

J-E, despite the defeats, had plenty of highlights, starting in the 4×800 relay where Mike Marrero, Cody Stanton, Greg Bader and Dylan Kirk posted a top time of 9:03.0.

Stanton also won the 3,200-meter run in 10:00.8, with Marrero third in 10:14.5. Meanwhile, John Flynn prevailed twice, clearing 5 feet 4 inches in the high jump and also taking the long jump, going 18 feet 5 1/2 inches.
