Trustee Mike Buda and chair of the policy committee updated the board of education on the revisions made to the weight room policy as requested by some parents during the meeting March 24.
Buda said from 3 to 5 p.m. the room is open to athletic teams and students 13 and older with supervision.
From 5 to 9 p.m. the weight room is open to the community and students enrolled in a seventh through 12th grade program. Anyone younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by someone at least 21 years old with signed parental permission.
Everyone must sign in to the weight room.
The room is not open to the pubic during the summer or when school is not in session.
The district will take action for anyone who abuses the weight room. Offenders can lose privileges for 30 days or indefinitely.

Students from Kristie Boisen’s advertising and design class were asked to create a new logo for Canastota Little League. Shea Cerio’s design was chosen. The class has been invited to Little League opening ceremonies on May 2.
During the regular board of education meeting held March 24, Courtney Messier and April Swanson from Boisen’s advertising class asked board members for a CHEEP grant to purchase protective holders for informational posters. The posters include student hotlines and other resources for help dealing with stress-related issues.
“This way they won’t be torn down,” Messier said. “They get ripped if their not put in holders and it takes away the important information.”
The board approved $240.
During the question and answer period high school assistant principal Debora Duffy told board members that track and field athlete Jeff Willis set a new school record for pole vaulting of 14 feet.
Chair of the facilities committee and trustee Steve Stokes said the committee is currently reviewing the heating system at South Side Elementary School.
“We are continually looking at the future of our schools,” Stokes said. “King & King Architects are working with the district for whatever direction we go in we will be prepared.”
The board will meet again April 14 at 6:30 p.m.
