For the second time in as many nights, the Jamesville-DeWitt indoor track and field team lay claim to a Section III Class A championship at Manley Field House. But it was the boys Red Rams doing the honors on Tuesday night, picking up 106 points to finish in the top spot ahead of New Hartford, who was second with 85 points. East Syracuse-Minoa had 21 points for eighth place. On the oval, J-D went 1-2 in the 1,000-meter run, where Bumkuth Jiak earned the victory in a time of 2:44.19, just ahead of Max Smith, who was second in 2:45.58. Not stopping there, Jiak also emerged with a victory in the mile with a clocking of 4:38.55. Many of J-D’s points came from its domination of field events. In the triple jump, the Red Rams grabbed the top two spots, as David Salbert won with a leap of 44 feet 5 1/2 inches and Tim Kendrick got second place with 40 feet 2 3/4 inches. Adam Tyson earned another win in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, and he was also second in the long jump (20 feet 2 1/2 inches) behind Oneida star Pat McLaughlin (22 feet 2 inches), with Salbert (19 feet 10 1/4 inches) in third place. Michael Paul (39 feet 8 3/4 inches) and Matt Spalding (38 feet 7 inches) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put. A false start cost J-D a chance to win the 4×200 relay, but in the 4×800 Kendrick, Jiak, Smith and Jake Pusey got together and won that event in 8:39.07, beating runner-up Fulton by more than six seconds. Kendrick, Smith, Alex Wilmot and Kevin Schaefer were third in the 4×800 relay in 3:47.65. Ben Kier ran to third place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:20.76. Ira Griffin got third in the 55-meter dash (6.96 seconds). Austin Davis was fourth (1:34.68) in the 600-meter run as Eric Semmel took sixth in the 55-meter hurdles. ESM had its best effort in the 600-meter run, where Matt Lyons finished second in 1:31.26, while Craig Andrianos was fourth (2:48.43) in the 1,000-meter run. Chad Goyer was sixth in the 300-meter dash (40.11 seconds). Andrianos, Lyons, Dylan Courbet and Paul Schneible had a fourth-place time of 9:08.65 in the 4×800 relay. Lenny Kerznowski had a fourth-place long jump of 19 feet 10 1/2 inches.
