Skaneateles wrestlers beat Onondaga

With every point important, the Skaneateles wrestling team overcame a numerical advantage from Onondaga in last Tuesday night’s meet, beating the Tigers 36-32.

OCS actually won seven matches to the Lakers’ six. But Skaneateles won because it kept the Tigers to decisions on three occasions.

Kyle Sears (152 pounds) lost to Kevin Eipp 4-3, but stayed on the mat for six minutes, as did Jimmy Caro (160 pounds) in a 5-4 defeat to Justin Stellmack. Eric Murray (135 pounds) also went the distance as he lost to Zak Field 6-1.

Each time Skaneateles won, it got six points. Owen Sheppard (125 pounds), Jacob Valentino (130 pounds) and Jacob Carvalho (140 pounds) all claimed forfeits, while the other three victories came through pins.

At 119 pounds, Tyler Saunders took 1:15 to pin Jeremy Forest. Chris Wise (171 pounds) finished off Robert McConnell in 1:26, while Neil Ruggles (145 pounds) pinned Nick Piron at the end of the second period.

Weather kept the Lakers from meeting Southern Cayuga Wednesday night, so the Lakers were off until Friday’s trip to Red Creek.
