Marcellus volleyball falls to Homer

Continuing to struggle in a way that it hasn’t in a long time, the Marcellus girls volleyball team took a four-game loss to Homer in front of its home fans Wednesday night.

When the Mustangs recovered from a 25-17 defeat in the opening game to take the second game 25-10, all looked to be normal. But the Trojans won the third game 25-14, then closed out the match by winning the fourth game 25-19.

Jenn Sniffen had five kills, with Kassie Phillips getting four blocks and four aces. Kim Duck and Kelly McInerney each got four kills, set up by Samantha Vulcano’s 18 assists. Homer’s veteran duo of Katie Wick (15 kills) and McKenna Riley (30 assists) helped deliver a surprise.

A new week began for the Mustangs with a home match against Jordan-Elbridge that didn’t take too long to complete, as Marcellus swept the Eagles 25-17, 25-14, 25-11.

Vulcano, with her 16 assists, set up many point for Rebecca Eddy, who pounded home 11 kills. Phillips gave the front line balance with eight kills and five blocks. McInerney (four assists), Carly Annable (three aces) and Francesca Tangredi (four assists) helped, too.
