F-M’s Lee passes 1,000 career points

Home again Friday to face Liverpool, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls basketball team used its experience to overwhelm the younger Warriors in a 61-44 decision that featured a bit of history.

When Lee, on her way to a big night that included 26 points, hit a breakaway lay-up, she surpassed 1,000 points for her career, prompting the game to be stopped so that teammates and fans could honor her with various kinds of honors. And it all came on the same day where F-M’s national championship girls cross country team was honored in that same gym.

All this came during a night where F-M rarely trailed, using a 14-6 domination of the second quarter to take charge. By the fourth quarter, the Hornets were up, 50-31, and could afford a bit of relaxation.

Lee did so much because her teammates proved useful, too, as Emily Trapani picked up 12 points and Morgan Axenfeld came up with 11 points. Allison Pliszka earned seven points. No Liverpool player reached double figures, though Lyteshia Price (nine points) came close.

In a huge game this Friday, F-M hosts Cicero-North Syracuse, who started 9-0 before falling to Corcoran 67-48 last week. Prior to that, the Hornets visited Rome Free Academy on Tuesday.
