Following a 24-hour weather delay, the Fayetteville-Manlius ice hockey team would face Cicero-North Syracuse in a clash of the Twin Rinks’ two Division I tenants, each of whom held playoff aspirations. F-M showed that it could rebound from mid-season disappointment, getting away in the late stages to beat the Northstars 5-2. This followed back-to-back defeats to Cortland/Homer and West Genesee, the latter a 2-1 defeat last Tuesday where a 1-0 Hornets lead got away in the third period. After notching the only goal of the first period, the Hornets spent the next two periods answering every each of CNS’s challenges, especially in a third period where it found the net three times and drew clear. Andrew Lane, more than anyone else, went to the forefront, scoring twice and adding two assists. Esposito and Billy Kent each had one goal and two assists, while Ronnie Caputo also scored. Poppleton was terrific in the net, turning away 27 of 29 shots. F-M (9-2-1) will duel Tuesday with Baldwinsville at Lysander Arena to see who would take second place in the Division I standings before back-to-back games against Auburn and Clinton later in the week.
