The Geddes town board during a regular meeting Tuesday night appointed Captain Victor Gillette as chief of police for the Geddes police department.
Gillette has been acting as chief since former chief Michael Walsh resigned earlier this year. Gillette will fill the post on a temporary basis, to last six to 12 months according to the resolution passed by the board.
His appointment comes amid yet another round of police department consolidation talks by the Solvay village and Geddes town leaders.
The board also recognized the retirement of officer Richard Boyle, effective June 14, and authorized Gillette to canvass for an officer to fill the open position.
