As if an undefeated run through the CNY Counties League American division wasn’t enough, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls track and field team went a bit further.
During Monday’s CNCYL American Division championship meet at Central Square, the Hornets parlayed total domination of distance races to the majority of its 209 points. That more than doubled the effort of runner-up West Genesee, who was second with 102 points.
F-M got 72 points just from its 1-2-3 finishes in the trio of distance races. This started in the 800-meter run, where Alex Chapman won in 2:22.69, ahead of Kathryn Fanning (2:24.56) and Mackenzie Carter (2:28.60).
Over in the 1,500, Carter won, in 4:42.11, ignoring the chilly weather to beat Kathryn Buchan (4:48.02) by nearly six seconds, while Molly Malone (4:49.03) finished third. And in the 3,000-meter run, Courtney Chapman, in 10:04.49, pulled away from a field where Buchan (10:16.94) and Amanda Eisenson (10:57.89) got second and third, respectively.
Jessica Marini earned a victory in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.72, but had to settle for second behind West Genesee’s Katie Bott in both the 200-meter dash (27.73 seconds) and 400-meter dash (59.36 seconds).
Still, Marini, Malone, Katie Sischo and Jordan Levy combined to win the 4×400 relay in 4:13.43, as Sischo, Jocelyn Richards, Alex Chapman and Colleen Mulvihill ran the 4×800 relay in 9:39.78. Molly Levy, Alyssa Hoyt, Cliare Luber and Lauren Ruggiero teamed up to get second place in the 4×100 in 53.78 seconds.
Richards won on her own, in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 7:30.8, as Mulvihill finished fourth. Ruggiero was fourth in the 100 (14.12 seconds) and sixth in the 200 as Fanning (1:02.82) and Carter (1:02.93) picked up fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400 behind Marini.
As Kristin Mannion took the pentathlon with 2,239 points, Lane Brenner cleared 4 feet 10 inches to win the high jump. Erika Davin went 14 feet 8 inches for third in the long jump, while Julia Donato finished fourth in the shot put and Luber got third in the pole vault.
