Relying on its terrific talent pool in the higher weight classes, the Morrisville-Eaton wrestling earned a 37-29 victory over Canastota in last Tuesday night’s showdown between two well-regarded Center State Conference powers.
They started at 125 pounds, where Rourke Devlin put the Warriors on the board, pinning Jake Popple in 1:41. The Raiders answered at 130 pounds with Schuyler Jayson accumulating the points for a technical fall over Shayne Devlin.
After M-E’s Cody Frost (135 pounds) pinned John Duwel in 1:24, Canastota took the next three matches.
Nate Hopkins won a tough 140-pound match over Jordan Dorshenko 6-2, and Brian Brodfuehrer (152 pounds) needed overtime to beat Mike Hackney 10-6. In between, Sean Wilkinson (145 pounds) claimed a forfeit.
Now trailing, M-E took care of that for good by winning the next four matches, accumulating 19 points in the process.
Ryan LeBlanc, at 160 pounds, got it going with a pin over Jake LaBarre in 1:23. Alex Meyers (171 pounds) dominated in a 20-8 decision over Ben Rinaulto, while Ethan Childs (189 pounds) beat James Coonrod 6-2 and Mike Barker (215 pounds) closed this stretch by pinning Sam Stagnitti 30 seconds into the third period of their contest.
Canastota would have late highlights, as Brandon Durfee (103 pounds) pinned Barney Prince in 1:21 and Tyler Sirota (119 pounds) earned a last-second fall over Darren Perry. In between, M-E’s Austin Hirsch won at 112 pounds, pinning Matt Avery in 4:57.
From here, M-E will travel to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill for Saturday’s Central New York Tournament. Meanwhile, the Raiders travel to Hilton, west of Rochester, for the Clayton Barnard Tournament.
