By tearing through two more opponents, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls basketball team built its record to 7-1 going into the holiday break.
The Northstars’ superb rotation of guards all took turns hurting Auburn last Tuesday night, helping to produce a 75-49 victory over the Maroons.
Steadily, CNS used its high-powered offense to build a 37-27 halftime lead. Then it got even better, outscoring Auburn 23-7 after halftime to put the game away.
In all, four Northstars players reached double figures. Morgan Nandin led the balanced attack with 15 points, with Nicole Dwyer hitting on four 3-pointers to account for most of her 13 points.
Marybeth Egan continued to roll, with 11 points, as Shannon Hickin returned to form with 10 points. Eighth-grader Alanna Stewart, fresh off her 22-point outing against Edison Tech in the Syracuse/Rochester Shootout on Dec. 15, had eight points this time around as Jessica Mislaszek earned nine points.
CNS then visited Henninger Friday night and was even more dominant, running its win streak to six with an 82-34 destruction of the Black Knights.
Proving that it could take over a game in short order, the Northstars tore to a 26-6 lead in the first quarter and kept building from there, eventually building a 64-20 edge before it eased up in the late going.
Egan, with 16 points, was one of four CNS players to reach double figures. Nandin had 14 points, with Dwyer adding 11 points (including three 3-pointers) and Alyssa Georgiade coming off the bench to earn 10 points. Hickin (eight points) and Stewart (seven points) also made soild contributions.
On Thursday and Friday, CNS will look to continue this big run when it competes in the annual Livonia Christmas Tournament.
