For much of its 12-year history, the Alliance Bank Futures Golf Classic has reserved a spot in the field for the Section III individual champion. Now, it’s gone a step further.
Players from 16 area high schools teamed up with Futures professionals last Wednesday at the Links at Erie Village for the inaugural Nice N Easy Pro-Junior Challenge. They played a nine-hole, best-ball format.
And Christian Brothers Academy came up with the title. Teamed with Allison Fouch, the quartet of Erin Engstrom, Mary Fletcher, Bethany Scalzo and Elisabeth Webber recorded a 29, six under par, to beat Cazenovia/Whitesboro by one shot.
East Syracuse-Minoa, on the course where it plays home matches in the spring, tied Section III team champion Fayetteville-Manlius and Baldwinsville for third place with 31.
Skaneateles native Julie Turner-Peluso got a chance to play with members of her hometown team, as Brigid Clary and Hilary Fenner from the Skaneateles Lakers tagged along.
F-M’s Jillian Fraccola, the individual Section III champion, went straight from this event to participation in the tournament itself.
