It didn’t take long for the cold snow to melt into warm sunshine — and it took even less time for the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team to seize upon the improvement and post some more wins before its most crucial stretch of the season.
The April 15 snowstorm pushed the Bees’ trip to Corcoran back 24 hours, but the wait did little to affect matters, as B’ville whipped the Cougars 14-6.
After a busy exchange in the early going, the Bees took over in the second quarter. Winning most of the draws, it put up seven unanswered goals, leaving Corcoran far behind as it built an 11-3 halftime advantage and breezed through the rest of the contest.
Jack Venditti, who set a school record with 12 assists in his previous outing against Essex, turned up with seven assists against the Cougars, helping numerous teammates get involved.
Jeremy Boltus paced the Bees with four goals, adding an assist of his own. Justin Tierney emerged with a three-goal hat trick, while Cam Davoy had two goals and two assists. Both Eric Parah and Mitch Collins matched Davoy’s two-goal output, with Corey Bulken getting the other goal.
With the home fields still muddy, the Bees moved Thursday’s game with Auburn to Liverpool High School’s turf, and it turned out to be a high-speed affair where the Bees outscored the Maroons 19-13.
The pace became torrid in the second quarter, and for a while, Auburn matched everything B’ville could produce, each side scoring six times in that period to produce a 9-9 halftime tie.
What made the difference was that the Bees kept on scoring in the second half as the Maroons cooled off, with each of the last two quarters producing 5-2 margins.
Auburn tried to beat up Venditti, but he still produced three goals and three assists, and the attention given to him just left more room for players like Parah, who set a career mark with five goals.
Boltus matched Parah’s total and added four assists for good measure. Davoy and Tierney each scored twice, with Davoy contributing a pair of assists. Bulken had a goal and three assists. Kevin McMahon also scored. In defeat, Auburn’s Matt Chadderdon burned the Bees for seven goals and two assists.
All this set up a week where the Bees would find out plenty about itself. It makes a Tuesday visit to Camillus to face the state no. 1-ranked West Genesee Wildcats, then returns home Thursday to face Fayetteville-Manlius before a Saturday-night duel with Liverpool, a team it beat in overtime on April 5.
