Absolutely nothing has kept the Cicero-North Syracuse girls indoor track and field team from towering over the competition — not even two-plus weeks of inactivity.
After seeing the Jan. 29 Constantino Invitational scrapped and the Feb. 5 Onondaga High School League championship meet pushed back, the Northstars finally came back to Manley Field House last Wednesday to end a 16-day break.
And it did so with style, as CNS piled up 135 points to breeze to the OHSL Colonial National division championship. Baldwinsville (95 points) got second place, with Liverpool (82 points) in third place.
For the Northstars, the foundation was laid in field events, where it won three times, and in distance running.
Monique Roberts cleared 5 feet 6 inches in the high jump, winning as Gina Campagna (4 feet 10 inches) was second. Sommer Cloinger’s reign in the shot put continued as she threw it 40 feet 6 1/4 inches to win by nearly five feet.
Keriann Borke nearly had three individual titles. She did prevail in the triple jump, going 37 feet 4 3/4 inches, and was second in the long jump by going 17 feet 1/2 inch. And in the 55-meter hurdles, Borke had a time of 8.83 seconds, just inches behind B’ville’s Heather Boyle (8.82 seconds).
Meanwhile, on the oval, Lindsay Raulli and Alicia Finger had a 1-2 finish in the 1,500-meter run as Raulli won, in 5:03.27, and Finger (5:05.72) was second. Katie Duerr earned second place in the 1,000-meter run (3:11.36), just ahead of Lauren Slocum (3:15.11), who was third.
Taylor Wendler took her turn in front by running 3,000 meters in 10:48.40, beating the field by more than 10 seconds, as Alicia Greco (11:38.13) was fifth.
McKaye Neumeister earned lots of points. She teamed with Leigha DeStefano, Lauren Spink and Alaina Stojaski for a victory in the 4×400 relay in a clocking of 4:15.78. She also was second (33 feet 11 inches) to Borke in the triple jump and runner-up in the 600-meter run in 1:41.41. Spink got third in 1:42.42.
CNS will look for the same kind of results this Wednesday at the Section III championship meet, two days after the boys had their sectional gathering.
