Giving itself as much momentum as possible for the bigger events ahead, the Baldwinsville cross country attempted to gain two victories at last Saturday’s Liverpool Invitational.
Running on the same Longbranch Park course that will serve as host to the Section III championship meets on Nov. 3, the boys Bees won the Varsity 2 division with 66 points, edging out Marcellus (68 points) for the crown in a 16-team event. Auburn, with 91 points, was third.
Among individual, Brian Lang finished third in 15 minutes, 52.2 seconds. Cory Greczyn also cracked the top 10, running to ninth in 16:41.0.
Behind them, Seth Jackson got 18th place, in 17:23.5, and Adam Pacheck gained 19th place in 17:23.7. Jason Houghtaling crossed the line in 17:33.2 to finish 21st among individuals and clinch the victory for the Bees.
As for the B’ville girls team, now at no. 20 in the state AA rankings, it contended in the Varsity 2 division at Longbranch, but had to settle for second place, with 63 points, as Class C power Skaneateles (43 points) came out on top.
Amanda Sprague was in the hunt for the individual title, finishing second in a time of 19:21.8. Only Skaneateles star Hannah Waite (19:13.1) fared better.
Danae Polsin had one of her best races of the season, taking sixth place in 19:49.2. Megan O’Connor claimed 11th place (20:03.1), while Molly Quinn earned 22nd place (20:49.1) and Ashley Shaheen finished 24th, in 20:53.2.
Both B’ville teams will expect to be in top contention Saturday when they run in the OHSL championship meet at Tully High School.
