DeWitt police address street racing complaints
DeWitt Police Chief Chase Bilodeau reports that over the last couple of months, the DeWitt Police Department has received an abundance of complaints regarding the excessive noise from revving of engines, aggressive driving, and loud music from the numerous vehicles that congregate on Erie Boulevard and Thompson Road during the weekend evening hours.
These complaints have been received from residents in the neighborhoods adjacent to Erie Boulevard, where the noise from the congregating vehicles has caused a deteriorated quality of life during hours when people are trying to enjoy the peace of their homes and trying to sleep, according to the police department.
Starting the weekend of June 26, the DeWitt Police Department will be conducting a multiple agency detail with the assistance of other local police agencies to address these issues.
The DeWitt Police Department would like to gain voluntary compliance and cooperation, but will actively enforce vehicle and traffic law, the town noise ordinance as well as other applicable laws as necessary in order to gain compliance in support of our local resident’s quality of life, the department announced in a press release.
The DeWitt Police is asking individuals to refrain from committing acts that violate the vehicle and traffic law, amplify noise or congregate in any large groups of vehicles, which only stand to enhance the level of noise produced, furthering the problem.
Motorists should be further advised that numerous parking lot owners where these congregations have occurred in the past have begun posting their properties and will likely be desirous of prosecution for trespassing of violators.
The Town of DeWitt Police asks members of these congregating groups to be considerate of the residents, and the quality of life that they have been infringing upon.
If people do not comply, they may be subject to traffic tickets, arrest and the possibility of their vehicle being towed, according to the police department.
