Connor Boland made sure he would never forget the last time the Liverpool ice hockey team took to the ice in 2019.
Boland’s six goals all but carried the Warriors to an 8-3 victory over the Cazenovia Lakers last Monday afternoon at Lysander Ice Arena.
Liverpool had not played since its third-place finish in the Dec. 20-21 Opitmist Tournament hosted by Cicero-North Syracuse that included a defeat by the Warriors to the Northstars 5-3.
Boland quickly established himself against Cazenovia, notching a hat trick in the first two periods. It was needed, too, since the Lakers, still in search of its first win of the season, produced enough to only trail 5-3.
Then the Warriors got away with three late unanswered goals, Boland remaining the main part of the attack as he pulled off the rare double hat trick, plus an assist.
Most of the time, it was Nick Gagnon passing it to Boland as he notched five assists to go with a lone goal. Xavier Springer notched a goal and three assists, with Marco Palumbo getting two assists as Anthony Bentley earned a single assist.
At home again Friday night, Liverpool faced Ontario Bay and made it back-to-back wins, easily taming the Storm in a 5-1 decision.
More balanced in its attack, the Warriors had Springer lead with two goals and one assist. Gagnon had three assists, with Boland and Anthony Bentley each getting one goal and one assist. Dylan Husted had the other goal, with assists also credited to Kyle Kirkby and Chris Zimmer.
That same night, C-NS resumed its season at the Twin Rinks, hosting Ithaca, and its defense struggled to contain the Little Red in a 6-3 defeat.
Matt Cramer still scored twice, with Carter Wisely getting the other goal, also joining Nick Tangretti, Nick Sciore and Holden Sarosy in the assist column. Kali Van Iuven was quite busty in the net, finishing with 50 saves.
C-NS gets back-to-back games with West Genesee after meeting Watertown IHC on Wednesday. Liverpool is home next week for contests against Fayetteville-Manlius and Mohawk Valley
