Before 2019 could turn into 2020, the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse bowling teams would have one more head-to-head battle.
That took place Monday afternoon at Flamingo Lanes, where on its home surface the boys Warriors remained undefeated with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Northstars.
The total pinfall between these two sides was 2,851 for Liverpool, 2,773 for C-NS, a reflection of the match’s close nature.
Depth again played a key role for the Warriors as scoring conditions were a bit tougher than normal. Brandon Davis shot his team’s best game of 240 in his opener on the way to a 611 series.
Josh Winzens started with games of 211 and 222 and had a 589 set, with Dylan and Deacon Roberson earning 575 and 552 totals. The 192 game earned by Zach Doing in the third was crucial since Zak Ormsby had only managed games of 165 and 167.
It was actually the Northstars’ J.J. O’Connell getting the best individual series of 631, stringing together consistent games of 209, 205 and 217.
Tyler Dottolo helped with a 594 series capped by a 212 third game, while Kenny Pattesron had a 561 series with a 203 opener.
In the girls match, Liverpool shut out C-NS 3-0, with Dominique Cimini at the forefront for the Warriors as she shot a 473 series, capped by a third game of 185.
Both teams would bowl again last Friday, Liverpool hosting West Genesee and C-NS welcoming Homer to Strike-N-Spare Lanes.
The Warrrios swept the Wildcats, each of them 3-0 decisions, with the boys side having Winzens lead with a 684 series that included games of 248 and 234.
Ormsby’s 253 bridged games of 199 and 197 in his 649 set as Roberson, with a 618 series ended by a game of 248, was just ahead of the steady 616 from Davis.
Moving to the girls match, Liverpool had a pinfall of 2,345 to WG’s 1,961. Ashley Hardy had a sensational match, shooting 233 in between games of 197 and 182 to post a 612 set as Cimini earned a three-game total of 424.
C-NS won against Homer, with the girls getting a 3-0 sweep as Brianna Mabee shot a 215 in her 527 series, while Katie Cloonan, with a 497 series, was two pins ahead of the 495 set from Kathryn Artz.
This followed the C-NS girls’ 2-1 defeat to Camden on Thursday where Cloonan closed with a 243 to finish out a 561 series. Mabee (468 series), Jessaia McGriff (453 series) and Artz (421 series) trailed as the Blue Devils’ Emily Wines opened with a 250 in her 609 series.
