Not until the last full week of September did the Baldwinsville girls swim team have its first home meet of 2019, where again its top individuals would flourish.
Up against Skaneateles Tuesday night, the Bees lost the team match, 60-34, but still featured two wins apiece from Clare Burke, Ashley Konz and Kali Sacco.
Burke swam the 200-yard freestyle in two minutes, 10.56 seconds to edge the Lakers’ Grace King (2:12.15), and then was victorious in the 100 butterfly in 1:08.93 to the 1:11.15 from Skaneatles’ Amelia Musso.
Konz needed 26.46 seconds to hold off the Lakers’ Elizabeth Springer (27.03) in the 50 freestyle and then won a 100 backstroke duel with Skaneateles’ Lily Buchholz, going 1:03 flat to Buchholz’s 1:03.60.
As for Sacco, she pulled away in the 200 individual medley, prevailing in 2:25.75, while also gaining first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.16.
Two of the relays were close. Konz, Burke, Sacco and Madeline Sauro went 2:06.56 in the 200 medley relay, right behind Skaneateles (2:06.06), while that same B’ville quartet swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:51.78 as Skaneateles prevailed in 1:51.53.
B’ville went to West Genesee on Thursday and again found plenty of individual success amid a 97-79 defeat to the Wildcats.
Konz was victorious in the 200 IM in 2:28.65 and then swam the 100 backstroke in 1:04.72, while Sacco was victorious in the 50 freestyle in 26.86 seconds before getting first place in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.70.
Aside from going 2:09.26 in the 200 freestyle to edge WG’s Allison Putnam (2:06.32), Burke also was second in the 500 freestyle (5:54.98) and helped Konz, Sacco and Sauro to beat the Wildcats, 2:06.49 to 2:07.14, in the 200 medley relay.
In the 200 freestyle relay, B’ville finished in 1:51.76, just behind WG’s 1:50.17 as Makenna Williams made it to second place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:36.49.
The Bees compete twice more next week, meeting Christian Brothers Academy Tuesday at Le Moyne College before returning home to face Mexico two nights later.
