By flying out of the gate, the Westhill girls soccer team made sure that Solvay did not get close in last Tuesday night’s clash, the Warriors prevailing by a score of 4-0. During an explosive first half, the Bearcats constantly were in a defensive mode, trying to contain a free-flowing Westhill attack, but finding that task unsuccessful. A trio of Warriors did all the big work, as Kelly Ristoff led with two goals and one assist. Lindsey Lippert earned a goal and two assists, while Maggie Tripodi got one goal and one assist. To its credit, Solvay did pitch a second-half shutout, Chelsea Root finishing with 12 saves. But the Warriors turned away every possible Bearcat chance, Sam Peebles and Gwen Dougherty combining for 10 saves to earn the shutout. Westhill could not dismiss Solvay’s challenge, even though it beat the Bearcats 5-0 earlier this season. This was because, a night earlier, Solvay had gone out of league play and knocked off East Syracuse-Minoa, from the Class A ranks, in a 2-0 shutout. Solvay went through a 0-0 first half, and would keep ESM off the board thanks to Chelsea Root’s 12 saves. And it burst out in front in the second half thanks to goals by Chelsie Delperuto and Alexis Bandera, with Anna Salvagno adding an assist. And once it had lost to Westhill, Solvay didn’t let it linger, instead returning home Thursday night and pummeling Jordan-Elbridge 8-2. Delperuto, Bandera and Nicole Antonacci each found the net twice. AnaRay Losurdo and Loren Lucio had one goal apiece, with Salvagno earning two assists. Erin Ryan and Michelle Slowik got single assists. As this went on, Westhill took apart Hannibal 10-0. The onslaught included eight different players getting goals, only Tripodi and Brenna Rainone finding the net twice. Ristoff, Lindsey Lippert, Emily Mizer, Alison Tartaglia, Kate Clark and Liz Parkinson also scored, with Grace Powers earning two assists. Kasey Fagan and Kelly LIppert also had assists. Westhill and Solvay also had a boys soccer meeting and the Warriors, fuming from its loss to Clinton on Oct. 1, bounced back and topped the Bearcats 3-0. Again, it was Anthony Scaravillo’s show, as the senior, who combined for seven goals in wins over Cazenovia and Skaneateles the week before, this time earned two goals and one assist, Evan Badin earning the other goals. Barak BenYehuda also got credit for an assist. Solvay goalie Ryan Gardynski got credit for nine saves. The Bearcats rebounded Thursday to shut out Jordan-Elbridge 4-0. David Matsyuk led the way, finding the net twice as Nate Antonacci and Admir Osmanovic also put in goals. Chris Salvagni earned a pair of assists. Gardynski stopped all seven shots he faced.
