Mired in early-season struggles, the Skaneateles girls soccer team pulled out of it by beating a pair of OHSL Liberty division foes.
In the toughest of those tests, the Lakers met Homer last Monday afternoon and did enough to pull out a 2-1 victory over the Trojans.
Skaneateles battled to a 1-0 halftime lead and traded goals in the second half, hanging on behind Mary Buck’s nine saves. Carly Davis and Bridget Field posted the Lakers’ goals, while Chelsea Hamilton added an assist.
The Lakers’ offense broke out even more during Friday’s 4-0 shutout of Hannibal. That took a while, though, as Skaneateles only carried a 1-0 edge into the second half before pulling away late.
Bridget Field stepped up, scoring twice to lead the late surge, while Davis had one goal and one assist and Hamilton also found the net. The Lakers held the Warriors to just three shots all game.
Going for three wins in a row, Skaneateles hosted Solvay on Monday before a Thursday visit to Westhill, who seized the OHSL Liberty lead when it knocked off state no. 1-ranked Marcellus 3-2 last Wednesday.
