In a 15-day span, Marcellus boys cross country junior Ryan Manahan has won all three invitational races he has started.
The latest conquest involved Manahan and his fellow Mustangs claiming the Small School division title at Saturday’s 60th annual Baldwinsville Invitational.
In a 26-team field, Marcellus had 60 points, well clear of runner-up Tully (108 points), while Solvay got fourth place (172 points) and Jordan-Elbridge was fifth with 197 points.
Manahan and his teammate, Joe Fallon, went 1-2 in the boys division, as Manahan won in a time of 15 minutes, 46.11 seconds and Fallon claimed second in 15:54.68.
John Bell wasn’t far behind, as he ran to fourth place in 16:16.71, but team honors were not clinched until Justin Garn claimed 16th place in 16:53.27 and David Lilly worked his way to 37th place in 17:36.71. Alex Zamojski was 42nd in 17:42.96.
Meanwhile, Solvay benefited from seeing junior Cody McCarthy claim sixth place in 16:19.84. Matt Cregan got 24th place (17:09.49), while Nate Carr was 43rd in 17:43.81. Eric Goodrich (17:55.21) and Matt Battaglia (17:55.55) finished next to each other and cracked the top 50.
J-E’s Steve Slonosky led his side with a 12th-place finish in 16:39.55. Mitch Alpha was 26th, in 17:10.08, while Jack Gugel claimed 34th place in 17:34.90. Alex Suslik (18:08.40) and Rob Patterson (18:21.52) were 58th and 67th, respectively.
Moving to the girls Small School division at B’ville, Marcellus also challenged for top honors, getting 79 points, second only to Tully’s total of 63 points. J-E was 10th with 406 points.
Rachel Garn had a strong run, working her way to second place in 18:52.37 behind Johnson City’s Lauren Mullins (18:30.65), while Maggie Dunn finished fourth in 19:13.55. Molly McGuane finished 13th, in 19:58.55, with Mary Morocco 19th (20:31.46) and Eliza Bell 41st in 21:20.93. Tully prevailed by getting all five of its runners in the top 20.
For J-E, Phebe Alley had the best performance, taking 38th place in 21:17.65. Kerry Mack was 69th, in 22:25.11, while Brianna Byrnes (22:59.08), Alexis Malvaso (23:10.93), Sarah Knapp (24:23.49) and Lauren Hubbs (24:29.93) followed.
While all this was going on, Westhill/Bishop Ludden’s Jessica Curry beat all individuals at the East Aurora Invitational near Buffalo. Curry finished in 17 minutes, 36.53 seconds, well clear of the field that included Betsy Black, who was fourth in 18:41.78.
Overall, Westhill/Ludden was second in the team standings, 52 points to East Aurora’s 34. Emily Washburn finished 11th in 19:29.66, while Erin Christensen was 18th (20:19.76) and Erin Morrell (20:29.40) took 23rd place.
On the boys side, Westhill/Ludden was eighth in a 16-team field, with Peter Lynch in 19th place in 16:35.93 and Jon Moore (17:06.28) in 27th place.
