If there was anything the Skaneateles girls soccer team needed after a turbulent September, it was some good performances in early October before plunging into the Section III Class B post-season fray.
Visiting Altmar-Parish-Williamstown last Tuesday afternoon, the Lakers did break out, at least for one game, as it sprinted to a 3-0 halftime lead and went on to a 5-0 shutout of the Rebels.
Riley Brogan emerged by netting a pair of goals, while three others – Tessa Peterson, Sierra Sander and Ryley Pas’cal – also found the net. Grace Dower got credit for a pair of assists as Olivia Navaroli and Grace Hilpl had one assist apiece.
At Mexico a day later, the Lakers’ problems resurfaced in the first half against the Tigers, where it had a majority of the scoring opportunities, yet could not put a shot past Tigers goalie Melissa Murray, who recorded seven saves.
Then rain storms hit the area, and the game was halted, still 0-0. What was left for Skaneateles in this last week of the regular season was games against Homer and Hannibal before Sunday’s sectional playoff announcements.
