Onondaga — Amid a string of important league meets and before Section III titles are decided, area indoor track and field teams had another chance to compete on Sunday during the rescheduled John Arcaro Memorial Invitational, which was snowed out earlier in the month.
West Genesee’s girls won the afternoon session going away, with 124 points, well clear of Baldwinsville’s runner-up total of 53 points, while the boys Wildcats, with 58 points, were second to the Bees’ total of 108 points.
Carly Benson claimed the 3,000-meter run where she won in 10:55.41 and Amanda Lowther was fourth in 12:24.54. Maria Matkoski joined in when she went 4:59.89 in the 1,500-meter run, with Mia Mitchell third in 5:25.26 and Madeline Lowry sixth, and Emily Young went 1,000 meters in 3;09.57 to prevail as Kendall Dombroske got third place in a clocking of 3:14.63.
Also, WG won the 4×400 relaly as Dombroske, Madalyn Benson, Kelsey Fox and Megan Delia posted 4:16.61 to pull away from the pack. Delia, on her own, was victorious in the triple jump, going 34 feet 9 inches, and she also got second place in the 300-meter dash in 43.66 seconds.
J’Nazia Anderson would win the shot put, earning a best throw of 31’4”. Fox was third in the 55-meter dash in 7.92 seconds as Madalyn Benson claimed third place in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.72 seconds. Mitchell, Sara Ferranti, Emily Young and Janet Nolan were second in the 4×800 relay in 10:25.73, with Fox, Matkoski, Thi Tran and Shelby Kiteveles third in the 4×200 relay in 1:56.16. Michela Kashay cleared 4’6” in the high jump, taking fourth place.
On the boys side, Sean Byrnes was victorious in the mile in 4:55.66, holding off B’ville’s Andrew Vanslyke (4:56.12) as teammate Patrick Trivinson was sixth. Then David Leff pulled away and won the 1,000 in 2:38.25, more than five seconds ahead of the Bees’ Ethan Craig (2:43.36), with Hunter Buza third in 2:51.58.
continued — WG also saw Russ Graziano, Esisas Brunfield, Mark Kopp and Mark Dellefave take second place (3:46.18) to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (3:43.66) in the 4×400. In the 4×200, Dellefave, Brunfield, Kopp and Javier Monseratte were second in 1:42.03, with Auburn (1:38.53) prevailing.
Ryan Dunning was a close second (10:09.10) to B’ville’s Ryan Delola (10:07.50) in the 3,000-meter run, while Sean O’Brien was fifth in 10:58.68. Andrew Barry took sixth (7.05 seconds) in the 55 sprint.
Westhill-Bishop Ludden, Jordan-Elbridge and Solvay all took part in the afternoon session, with varying degrees of success.
For the Warriors, Annibel Coolican, Alaina Kenny, Genny Corcoran and Olivia Daigneau were victorious in the 4×800 relay in 10:10.20. Liz Kessler, Maura McAnaney, Megan O’Reilly and Kendra McCaull were second (4:32.99) in the 4×400, with the Warriors sixth in the 4×200.
Individually, Katherine Doherty (10 feet) and Noelle Coolican (8 feet) were second and third, respectively, in the pole vault behind Central Square’s Bethany Cripps, who cleared 11’6” as Bella Lavigne got sixth place. Zoe Fortin went 31’10” in the triple jump, gaining fifth place. Jayanna Monds was sixth in the 300-meter dash in 45.89 seconds.
J-E’s Emma Burns got to second place in the 1,500 in 5:08.65, with Madison Daly fifth in 5:31.02 as Theresa Dristle was sixth in the 1,000- in 3:17.69. Madi Hatt (1:47.45) and Julie Hines (1:48.35) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 600-meter run. Dristle was fifth in the pole vault.
Solvay had Katie Harrington nearly win the high jump, clearing 4’10”, but with more misses than Auburn’s Marissa Netti, so Harrington settled for second place. She also finished fifth in the 55 hurdles in 9.80 seconds, ahead of Westhill-Ludden’s Katie DeVeyra (9.95 seconds) in sixth place.
During the boys afternoon session, J-E’s Brad Marshall was victorious in the shot put, heaving it 43’5 ¾” to finish nearly two feet ahead of Corcoran’s Lucas West (41’8 ¼”).
continued — Westhill-Ludden’s Bryan King was second in the 55 hurdles in 8.54 seconds, with Owen Hoyne fifth in 9.15 seconds. King also was second in the pole vault (10’6”) to Central Square’s Joe Weaver (10’6”), while Jack Savage was fifth in the mile in 5:06.56. J-E’s Jared Alpha, Hunter Brunelle, Evan Brunelle and Dan Jorolemon were fourth in the 4×800 relay in 9:37.98.
Marcellus, meanwhile, went up against large-school teams in the evening session of the Arcaro meet, but still made some inroads, finishing fifth on the girls side with 25 points and sixth on the boys side with 29 points as Fayetteville-Manlius swept both team titles.
The boys Mustangs won the 4×800, seeing Patrick McGuane, Joe Riccard, Sean Raymond and Matt Strempel went 8:40.30 to pull away from East Syracuse Minoa (8:43.10) and the rest of the field.
Not content with that, McGuane, on his own, went 1:27.34 to beat Cicero-North Syracuse’s Allen Garnes (1:28.05) and win the 600. Raymond, clearing 5’8”, was second to F-M’s Chibu Ezidewgu (5’10”) in the high jump, while Riccardi added a fifth-place time of 2:55.88 in the 1,000. Ethan Mosure took seventh place in the mile. Andrew Marsh was eighth in the 3,200 and Sam Stearns eighth in the pole vault.
Meanwhile, on the girls side, Mary-Catherine Coon won the high jump, clearing 4’10”, and Grace Coon was second by clearing 4’8”.Meg Blystone earned seventh place in the shot put, heaving it 26’4”.
Courtney Otis took third place in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet, as Hannah Ryan (6’6”) finished fifth. Kortesoja Eva was seventh in the 3,000, with Mary-Catherine Coon eighth in the 55 sprint and Morgan Gould ninth in the 1,500.
