Echoing what it had done during the regular season, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys track and field teams prevailed over the field in Tuesday’s Onondaga High School League Freedom division championship meets at Fulton.

In the boys meet, the Red Rams picked up 152 points, with Mexico (120 points) in second place. CBA (84.5 points) and East Syracuse-Minoa (71.5 points) were third and fourth, respectively.

Zach Liebmann, Taumeras Howard, Dylan Volk and Sean Mulvihill as J-D won a dramatic 4×100 relay, edging Mexico, 42.52 seconds to 42.58. It was just as exciting in the pole vault, where Liebmann cleared 12 feet 6 inches – but ESM’c Correy Vollmer beat him with a 13-foot clearance.

Elsewhere in field events, J-D’s Davis Elmore, with a throw of 129 feet, and Charlie Scheftic, with a toss of 120’4”, went 1-2 in the discus, while Brian Roth won the shot put by heaving it 42’11 ½” as CBA’s Connor Agnew (40’2 ¼”) was third.

A great duel unfolded in the pentathlon, where J-D’s Nate Sturgeon, with 2,840 points, held off CBA’s Will Brower, who was second with 2,639 points. The Rams’ Nolan Roosa was fifth.

Robert Murphy, in 16.69 seconds, took the 110 high hurdles, with ESM’s Jeremy McGrath (17.07 seconds) as runner-up. McGrath won the 400 hurdles in 1:02.26, leaving Murphy (1:05.54) in third place as he went on to take second in the high jump, clearing 5’10”. Joe Murphy was third in the triple jump (38’9 ¾”), ahead of Volk in fourth place, and fourth in the long jump.

Howard also took third in the 100-meter dash in 11.51 seconds and fourth (5’8”) in the high jump. Samuel Dye took third in the 800-meter run (2:04.48, while Isaac Tupper ran to fourth place in the mile.

During the final of the 200-meter dash, CBA’s Deshawn Salter went to the front and, in 23.02 seconds, held off Liebmann (23.19 seconds) for the victory, CBA also saw Jack Lenkiewicz win the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:44.5, with J-D’s Andrew Scibilia (10:49.2) in second. Jack Brower, in 1:59.66, was a close second to Mexico star James Gowans (1:59.52) in the 800.

Matt Stedman (52.92 seconds) and Zach Zajdel (53.67) were second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Matt Curran was third in the mile in 4:53.32 as Tom O’Connor got fourth in the 400 hurdles, fifth in the 110 hurdles and sixth n the high jump

Zajdel, Curran, Pat Fowler and David Carey nearly won the 4×400 relay, finishing in 3:37.90, just behind Homer, who prevailed in 3:37.70 as J-D was fifth.

ESM earned a victory in the 4×800 relay, where Joe Coogan, Jesse Perrone, Jake Barker and Nick Schug got a time of 8:22.93 to hold off J-D (8:25.68) as CBA (9:18.40) finished far back in third.

Not content with that, Perrone also prevailed in the 3,200-meter run, his time of 10:09.39 beating a field where J-D teammates Nick Harron (10:23.33) and Nick Street (10:26.61) were third and fourth, respectively, and Carey was fifth.

Tom Grayer, with a leap of 19’7 ½”, was third in the long jump, with Jah-Meer McDuffie in fifth place. Coogan took fourth in the 800, where Schug was sixth. Angel Curbelo was fourth (103’5”) and Mike Gorman sixth (102’3”) in the discus, with McDuffie sixth and Anthony Townsend fifth in the triple jump.
