Whether close to home, or in venues like Chittenango and Baldwinsville, area track and field teams had a busy weekend and a lot of positive results.

Marcellus co-hosted a girls track invitational with Skaneateles on Saturday afternoon, and amid ideal conditions Rachel Garn gave the Mustang fans a victory in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.

Having won three races (at 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters) in a meet win over Westhill/Bishop Ludden three days earlier, Garn had plenty left for this race, claiming the 2,000 steeplechase in seven minutes, 21.49 seconds, nearly 11 seconds ahead of Tully’s Gabby Thompson (7:32.47) at the line.

Garn teamed with Zoe Higgins, Shannon Twombly and Haley Randall to gain third place in the 4×400 relay in 4:27.86. Higgins also was fifth in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:13.39.

Suzanna Sylcox had a sixth-place shot put toss of 28 feet 6 ¾ inches. Emma Blystone was ninth in the pole vault and Schuyler Stuart was 10th in the 3,000-meter run.

The night before, West Genesee had strong efforts in two different events, the girls tying for fifth at the Chittenango Invitational with 41 points and the boys finishing third with 78 points, behind Cicero-North Syracuse and host Baldwinsville, at the John Arcaro Relays.

At Chittenango, the girls Wildcats cleaned up in field events, where Abby Uczen won the pole vault, the only athlete to clear 10 feet as Westhill/Bishop Ludden’s Mary Kate Washburn was sixth.

Brianna Richardson, in 17.23 seconds, was second to Rome Free Academy’s Mariah Johnson (16.91 seconds) in the 100-meter hurdles.Melissa Bakowski added a third in the high jump, clearing 4’8”, while Maureen McInerney got third in the shot put with a throw of 31’4”.

Lindsay Weaver, Maria Matkoski, Mary McGlynn and Elise Dunshee gave WG a third-place time of 10:18.52 in the 4×800 relay. Laura Leff, Allison Iles, Melissa Bakowski and Tianna DeChick-Perrine were fourth (4:18.70) in the 4×400.

Emily Iles had a sixth in the 100-meter hurdles as Emily Barriere was seventh in the pentathlon and Abby Kastick took eighth in the 2,000 steeplechase.

Jordan-Elbridge, with five points, saw Julie Hines take sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.36 seconds and team with Brianna Byrnes, Mary Elizabeth Dristle and Emily Weichert for fifth place (4:26.31) in the 4×400 behind the Wildcats. Weichert added a fifth in the high jump (4’6”) behind Bakowski as Westhill/Ludden’s Caroline Coates was sixth in the 3,000-meter run.

Also at Chittenango, Westhill/Ludden’s boys team made it all the way to fourth place, with 45 points, well ahead of Solvay (15 points), J-E (13 points) and Marcellus (10 points) at night’s end.

Corey Wilkinson got 18 points by himself, winning the discus with a throw of 137 feet, just ahead of Rome Free Academy’s Robert Adler (135’5”), who would take the shot put with 52’7” ahead of Wilkinson’s best heave of 51’10” as J-E’s Tyler May was sixth.

As if that wasn’t enough, Wilkinson also took sixth in the 100-meter dash as teammate Antoine Montgomery was fourth in 11.58 seconds, adding to a sixth-place finish in the long jump.

Another Westhill/Ludden win came from Christian St. Amour, who needed 51.98 seconds to edge Whitesboro’s Zak Giorgi (52.07) in the 400-meter final as Solvay’s Nick Cometti (52.61 seconds) was fourth. The Warriors were third (8:51.69) in the 4×800, while Vincenzo Carr was fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase and Peter Guy was sixth in the 400 hurdles

The Bearcats did see Brian McLeod win the high jump, the only athlete to clear 6 feet, half a foot better than the field, and he also was sixth in the triple jump,

Ryan Manahan participated in the night’s main event, the Fleet Feet mile, and blazed to a time of 4:17.62, beating everyone except Fayetteville-Manlius senior star Nick Ryan, who won in 4:11.67. Mike Abbott helped Marcellus in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet to get fifth place.

J-E got more than half of its points in the 4×400, where Dylan Whittico, Austin Whittico, Jake Patterson and Bill DiREnzo took second place in 3:37.63, trailing only Fayeteville-Manlius, who won in 3:34.55. On his own, DiRenzo sped to fourth place (2:00.49) in the 800-meter run, while Tyler Jackson was eighth in the pentathlon.

WG’s boys never won an event at Baldwinsville, but placed everywhere. Nico Rinaldo claimed the individual pole vault, clearing 11 feet, good for fifth-place team points by himself, as he teamed with Ejay Harrell for fourth in the high jump.

David Martin and Josh Mattice got second in the shot put with total throws of 82’11 ½”, and they teamed for fifth in the discus. Ben Myers and Evan Baule rose to fourth in the triple jump, with Baule and Aakash Bhatt taking fifth in the long jump and the Wildcats sixth in the weight throw.

Erhard also teamed with Eldon Hard, Logan McAnulty and Matt Romano to get second place (11:16.28) to B’ville (11:05.91) in the distance medley relay. WG was second in the 2,800 distance medley relay in 7:33.30.

Even with Kal Strickland posting the fastest mile time of 4:38.91, he, along with David Leff, Hunter Buza and Andrew Francisco, still had to take second place in 19:53.88 as B’ville (19:28.02) won there.

Ian Potash and Will Johnson were third in the 110 high hurdles (37.77 seconds) and fourth in the 400 hurdles, while Mike Richards and Andrew Wells were fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase.

The Wildcats took third in the 1,000 international sprint medley and third in the 1,600 sprint medley, followed by a fourth in the 4×200 and 4×100 throwers relay and fifth in the 4×800.
