In its last tune-up for next week’s Section III championships at Colgate University, the Fayetteville-Manilus girls indoor track and field team went to SUNY-Cortland and earned the championship of the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational. With a total of 62 points, the Hornets outlasted Jamesville-DeWitt, who grabbed second place with 52 points. J-D was also a close second in the boys edition of the Grieve meet, with 48 points to Baldwinsville’s 51, as F-M was third with 40 points. Katie Sischo and Emily McGurrin gave the F-M girls a victory in the 1,500-meter run, posting the top two times as, with a combined 9:47.81, they beat the field by more than a minute. Jillian Fanning and Leah Monsour worked together to take the 1,000-meter run in 6:09.44. Heather Martin and Natalie Zazzara did the same in the 600-meter run, going 1-2 and winning in 3:26.08, more than 13 seconds clear of the field. Sischo, Fanning, Martin and Zazzara won the 4×400 relay in 4:16.79, nearly six seconds better than runner-up Skaneateles. Jhoville Pommells was second among individuals in the shot put and teamed with Odelia Ryan to go 54 feet 4 3/4 inches and finish second there, too. Isabelle Carapella and Katie Muller were third in the 55-meter hurdles in 20.68 seconds. When F-M took second in the 4×200 relay in 1:58.62, J-D beat them as Ally Fox, Katy Pieri, Liz Pieri and Sierra Vasilou posted a top time of 1:54.07. Katy Pieri joined Danielle Doss as they won the shot put, clearing 16 feet. Maggie Fuller, who was second in the shot put (5 feet), helped Fox as they won the long jump, going 30 feet 7 3/4 inches behind them as Skaneateles (30 feet) got second place. Liz Pieri and Taylor Cook were third (57 feet 7 3/4 inches) in the triple jump. Becca Doss and Avery Share ran to third in the 600-meter run in 3:43.36. In the boys meet, J-D’s Ryan Peters (40 feet 9 inches) and Koy Adams (40 feet 4 1/2 inches) rolled to first place in the shot put, sweeping the top two spots and going 81 feet 1 1/2 inches. Will Sterriker and Michael Meyer won the triple jump, stretching it out to 71 feet 7 3/4 inches, the only team to top 70 feet. J-D also was also fifth in the pole vault. Meanwhile, on the oval, the Red Rams’ Austin Davis and Isaac Tupper prevailed in the 1,000 with a total time of 5:34.94, with West Genesee (5:38.62) in second place and F-M in fourth. Sterriker and Nate Sturgeon got second in the 55 hurdles (17.85 seconds) to B’ville (17.60) as J-D got fourth in the 55 sprint. F-M was victorious in the 4×400 here, too, as Austin Perez, A.J. Blitz, Andrew Veilleux and Langston Lightcap finished in 3:40.77, edging Marcellus (3:41.92) at the wire. But it added the 4×200 as Blitz, Lightcap, Perez and Ryan Jones (third in the 55 sprint) beat Mexico, 1:39.09 to 1:39.88. In the 600, Mark McGurrin won the individual title in 1:28.16, as he and Andrew Roache prevailed in 2:59.37. Nick Ryan and Bryce Millar were third in the mile relay in 9:17.09, just ahead of J-D (9:27.67) in fourth place.
