Good news for the Solvay ice hockey team arrived early last week, even before it returned to action.
The Bearcats, a week after losing to Division II West leader Corcoran, saw the race get tight again when those same Cougars fell to Cortland/Homer 2-1.
With the door opening up a bit, Solvay tore through it in last Tuesday’s game against Ontario Bay, outscoring the Storm 10-5.
They went through a wild first period, Solvay finally inching in front 4-3. Despite constant pressure, the Bearcats didn’t get away until it outscored Ontario Bay 4-1 in the third period.
Josh Ginestro backed up his three-goal hat trick with two assists, as Tim Burgess gained two goals and four assists.
Ryan Chapman and Carmen Birenza each had two goals, with Chapman adding a pair of assists. Steve Adams had one goal and two assists, with Nick Downs also earning two assists. Nick Manobianco and Austin Webb earned one assist apiece.
