Getting a huge early-season win, the Baldwinsville boys tennis team moved to 4-0 on the season Wednesday afternoon, toppling Liverpool in a 6-1 decision. The Bees were perfect in doubles play, starting with Tom Hamm and Danny Kot sweeping past Mike Schneider and Ian Swenson 6-1, 6-0, and continuing with Grady Schmidt and Yaro Nieves beating Brandon Fernandes and Brennan Kirsche by those same scores. Though it took a bit longer, Shaun Devlin and Kevin Thompson earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Haroon Sheikh and Noura Hammadi, while Cody Buck and Kevin Pregent got past Anthony Taormina and Nick O’Hara 6-1, 6-2. Up in singles, Ben Weiss took the only defeat, leading early before falling to Chris Brais 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. Shawn Sullivan routed Steve Schneider 6-1, 6-1, while Matt Funicello rolled in first singles past Joe Corcoran 6-1, 6-0. Just before Liverpool, the Bees made it three wins in as many outings last Monday with a 7-0 romp over Rome Free Academy. In the closest singles match, Sullivan topped Joey Nowecki 6-4, 6-2, while Weiss beat Jordan General 6-2, 6-2 and Funicello shut out Collen Roller 6-0, 6-0. Pregent teamed with Buck to beat Vinny Castro and Mike Mellace 7-6, 6-1, with Thompson and Tom Honsinger getting a 6-4, 6-2 sweep of Mike Fletcher and Jacob Gosier. Hamm and Ezra Kim got past Will Monahan and Jake Pomilio 6-2, 6-2 as Schmidt and Nieves roared to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Richard Hojnacki and Alex Felice.
