A late surge that included six consecutive victories on the mat pushed the Baldwinsville wrestling team past its neighbors from Liverpool 43-21 in last Tuesday night’s showdown at the Baker High School gym. Of the first five matches, four went the Warriors’ away, the lone exception coming at 160 pounds, where Auggie Zona pulled out an exciting 13-10 decision over Ryan Bragon. Tim Sposato earned six points at 103 pounds by claiming a forfeit. This came after Joe Senf lost the 152-pound opener to Derek Eason 3-2, and before Patrick Nasoni (189 pounds) fell to Joe Pizzuto 12-6. But once Joey Shaheen, at 112 pounds, absorbed an 11-6 defeat to Casey Guilfoil, B’ville would take over and not get beat again. Jacob Norton started that surge in the 119-pound match, pinning Lucas Castellanos 23 seconds into the second period, and Anthony Finocchiaro (125 pounds) followed up with a 58-second pin over Tyler Eason. Nick Jacobs won at 135 pounds with a pin over Jacob Bottino in 2:26, with Antonio Peck (140 pounds) finishing off Emir Hulec in 3:28. Kurt McArdell ended the meet at 145 pound by rolling past Mende Cukalevski 10-2. B’ville then faced Fayetteville-Manlius on Thursday night, not trailing at any time in a 52-18 victory over the Hornets. Chad McArdell wrestled at 96 pounds, beating Patrick Quinlan 12-9 before Sposato beat Jacob Norton 13-1 and Shaheen pinned Tim Byrnes in 1:55. Peck and Kurt McArdell both recorded shutouts — Peck over Johnny Hajduk 11-0, McArdell over Tyler Neveldine 5-0. This came after Nick Bouvia, at 130 pounds, recorded a pin over C.J. Siciliano in 1:01 and Jacobs romped over Connor Wingate 19-5. Patrick Nasoni, at 171 pounds, had the quickest pin, taking a minute to finish off Angelo Pavone, with Jacob Florack (215 pounds) pinning Mike O’Bryan in 2:52. Senf got his pin over Jake Rau in 3:46 and Brian Honsinger (189 pounds) pinned Jordan Kalil with 15 seconds left in their match.
