If the Jamesville-DeWitt baseball team wanted to script the way it started the 2009 season last Thursday against Fulton, it would look exactly like the way it really turned out. Sharp at the plate and just as sharp on the mound, the Red Rams put the Red Raiders to sleep in a 12-0 romp that was both impressive and clean. It usually takes any baseball team a couple of games to find rhythm, especially on the defensive side. But J-D did not commit an error against Fulton, who made four errors. That helped pitchers Mike Gianni and Justin Marzella, who combined to give up just four hits, all singles, in their shutout. Meanwhile, the Rams slowly pecked away at Fulton with 20 hits at the plate. Four different times, J-D had multiple-run rallies, including four runs in both the second and fourth innings to draw clear. John Sheedy had his team’s lone double, adding four RBIs, while Jack Susman delivered three RBIs. Nick Cariseo and Anthony Dunn each drove in two runs, with Gianni adding an RBI to help his own pitching effort. As this was going on, J-D’s softball team debuted with a 12-1 loss to Fulton, a game that broke open when the Red Raiders scored five times in the fourth inning and four times in the top of the sixth. The Rams had just three hits off Fulton pitcher Jessica Palmitesso, who recorded 10 strikeouts and also starred at the plate with four RBIs. J-D had lots of problems in the field, committing nine errors.
