In back-to-back matches early this week, the Cazenovia girls volleyball team sailed to easy wins, improving its overall record to 5-1. The Lakers hosted Hannibal Monday night and was steady throughout a 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 sweep of the Warriors. Hannah Konnecke and Liz Reed each finished with five kills, while Alexis Markowski earned four kills. Melanie Arehart earned three kills. On the back line, Megan Robinson backed up her 14 assists with four aces as Chelsea Lauria picked up eight assists and two aces. A night later, at Phoenix, the pattern repeated itself as Cazenovia rolled past the Firebirds 25-13, 25-12, 25-19. Robinson picked up 12 assists, doing the bulk of the back-line work as Lauria added four assists. Laura Gregg and Rachel Burbidge each had three aces, while Koennecke had five aces to go with her five kills and Markowski had a team-best seven kills. The Lakers (5-1, 4-0 league), tied for first with Skaneateles in the OHSL Liberty division, pay a visit to Westhill next Monday, then are off until the new year, which starts with a Jan. 5 home match against Solvay.
