CAZENOVIA – Already this season, the Cazenovia boys lacrosse team has shown an ability to rebound from disappointment.
Having lost back-to-back games to Marcellus and LaFayette/Onondaga in the first week of April, the Lakers answered by routing Tully/Fabius-Pompey 16-1 at the end of that week.
Then, hosting Carthage on Monday afternoon, Cazenovia put together a fine all-around effort in the course of a 10-4 victory over the Comets.
Strong defense allowed the Lakers to shut out Carthage in the first quarter while sprinting to a 3-0 advantage and then do so again in the third period after the Comets cut the margin to 5-3 at halftime.
It helped, too, that Bryson Weaver won 10 of 14 face-offs, leading to increased possession time and lots of shots as Cazenovia overcame 16 saves by Carthage goalie Corey Decker.
D.B. Falge was in the middle of most of it, not only netting three goals, but dishing out four assists as Brendon Barnard scored twice and got three assists.
Forrest Ives also had two goals, with Bobby Livingston and Ben Bianco each getting one goal and one assist. Tom Navin also had a goal as Tucker Ives recorded five saves.
A rematch with Tully/Fabius Pompey on Thursday when the same as the first game, Cazenovia rolling past the Black Knights by a score of 15-3 this time around.
Six unanswered goals in the first quarter set the tone and the Lakers kept building from there, again with Barnard and Forrest Ives at the forefront.
Earning three goals and five assists, Barnard complemented the four goals and three asssits from Ives as Livingston stepped for his first three-goal hat trick of the season and Falge also got three goals. Bianco and Navin had one goal apiece.
And this leads to a stretch where Cazenovia (4-2), following a week to rest and practice, will play six road games in a row, starting next Saturday at Cicero-North Syracuse.
