The Solvay and Marcellus track and field teams gathered with Homer last Wednesday for what proved to be an exciting three-way meet. On the boys side, the Bearcats swept to wins over the Mustangs (93-5o) and Trojans (102-39), and Marcellus also lost to Homer in a narrow 73-68 decision. For the Bearcats, Jeremy Parker beat Mustang star Chris Stogsdill in the 400-meter dash, though both finished in 51.7 seconds, and Parker also won the 200-meter dash in 23.3 seconds. In the 4×400 relay, Parker, Rich Salvagno, Anthony Liquori and Tyler Grim prevailed in 3:42.1. Salvagno took time to win the 100-meter dash (11.5 seconds) while helping Liquori, Grim and Conor Halton win the 4×100 relay in 46.3 seconds. Halton, on his own, needed 1:03.1 to prevail in the 400 hurdles. In field events, Solvay’s Tom Bradley threw the discus 114 feet 7 inches, while in the pole vault Jerry Santoferrara cleared 10 feet 6 inches. Jesse Garn gave Marcellus wins in both the mile (4:29.8) and 3,200-meter run (10:18.3), while Stogsdill comfortably won the 800-meter run in 2:05.5. Stogsdill, Garn, Tom Riccardi and Mike Quercia needed 9:20.2 to win the 4×800 relay. Zach Wiley won the shot put, tossing it 39 feet 11 inches. In a close girls meet, Marcellus beat Solvay by a single point, 71-70, though both sides lost to Homer — the Bearcats in another 71-70 verdict, the Mustangs 72-65. Elizabeth Dean starred for the Mustangs, running 1,500 meters in 5:21.3 and also winning the 3,000-meter run in 11:43.2. Laura Quercia added a 400-meter victory in 1:04.8 as Sarah Franscesconi cleared 4 feet 6 inches in the high jump. Solvay had Rebecca Quick win the 100-meter dash (13.26 seconds) and Kyndra Jackson throw the shot put 26 feet 5 inches. Erin Ryan, Kaytlyn Perrotti, Darien Brown and Sydney O’Mara combined to win the 4×800 relay in a clocking of 11:16.
