Three times in the span of a week, the Cicero-North Syracuse softball team is going through rigorous examinations at the hands of those trying to take the Section III Class AA title from them, capped by this Friday’s tirp to Liverpool. This followed the Northstars’1-0 win over the Warriors May 8 at Gillette Field. At that same diamond three nights later, CNS won yet another nail-biter, coming back for a 5-4, eight-inning victory over West Genesee. Single runs in the first and second innings pushed the Northstars in front, 2-1, with pitchers Erica Gigliotti and Sarah Salamone maintaining that slim margin for a while. Then the run really started. WG scored twice in the top of the sixth to go ahead, 3-2, only to have CNS get a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie it at 3-3. Again, the Wildcats moved ahead, with a run in the seventh. Again, the Northstars answered, moving the game to extra innings by scoring in the bottom of that frame, then winning it with an eighth-inning tally. CNS had 10 hits to WG’s eight, and had just one error as the Wildcats made three errors. Morgan Nandin, Jennifer Huff and Sydney O’Hara each had one RBI. WG’s Gabby Lustrinelli hit the game’s only home run, a solo shot. The Northstars warmed up for the bigger games by going to Nottingham last Monday and earning 34 hits in a 27-0 rout over the Bulldogs. The fun included four-run rallies in the first two innings and seven runs in both the third and fourth innings. Nandin had six hits, with Lucia Meola, O’Hara and Felicia Lattanzio each getting five hits. Jenna Perry added four hits. Nandin and Meola earned five RBIs apiece, with Perry, O’Hara and Sarah Wazenkewitz each driving in three runs. Meola, Sydney Harbaugh and Brittany Paul matched each other with two RBIs.
