In a Center State Conference showdown Wednesday night, the Canastota wrestling team broke a four-match skid, going to Morrisville-Eaton and putting together a 54-16 victory over the Warriors. The Raiders mainly won by dominating the higher weight classes, including a 189-pound showdown where Fred Sherman used an overtime takedown to beat M-E star Dalton Villnave in a 3-1 decision. Elsewhere, Jeremy Brodfuehrer (152 pounds) and Sam Farfaglia (171 pounds) both claimed forfeits, while Sam Stagnitti (215 pounds) pinned Jake Holcomb in 1:51. Tyler Sirota (145 pounds) and Zach Zupan (160 pounds) nearly won at the same time, Zupan pinning Jake Smith in 3:17, one second faster than Sirota’s fall over Alex Marris. But the fastest pin belonged to Brandon Durfee, at 135 pounds, who took just 49 seconds to finish off Ryan Gabriec as Jake Popple (119 pounds) pinned Brian Schenk in 1:30. Dakota Tucker, at 130 pounds, pinned Alex Wenham early in the third period as Zach Hannan (103 pounds) won a 9-5 decision over Orin Brouillette. M-E managed three wins, including a pin by Jon Metz (125 pounds) over Jordan Pannell in 3:22. Barney Prince (112 pounds) shut out Rob Tyson 13-0. Mike Vreeland won at 140 pounds when Schyuler Jayson took an injury default. After M-E visits Whitesboro and Canastota visits Chittenango next Wednesday, both team will go to the Saturday’s Center State Conference Tournament at Adirondack High School in Boonville on Jan. 30 to kick off the post-season.
