Baldwinsville boys track and field impressive in win over C-NS

Girls Bees fall to Northstars, but sweep city opponents

BALDWINSVILLE – Taking a giant step toward winning the SCAC Metro division regular-season title, the Baldwinsville boys track and field team rolled to 104-37 victory over Cicero-North Syracuse last weekend at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.

In doing so, the Bees put up some of the best performances in Section III this spring, especially Sam Mellinger, who dominated the sprint races.

Mellinger tore to a time of 10.67 seconds to win the 100-meter dash. Later, in the 200-meter dash, he got first place in 21.79 seconds, going to the top of the sectional standings.

Solomon Holden-Betts had a clean sweep of the distance races. Holden-Betts ran 800 meters in 2:01.23, got first in the 1,600-meter run in 4:34.90 and would cover 3,200 meters in 10:03.94.

Not to be left out, Owen Weaver unleashed a triple jump of 42 feet 3 inches and cleared 5’8” in the high jump as Gibson Boudov threw the discus 121’1” and Pat Pasho had a winning shot put toss of 44 feet.

C-NS, in defeat, got a long jump of 21’6” from Carlton Garnes and a pole vault of 10’6” from Gavin McAllister, who also took the 400-meter dash in 51.80 seconds as Garnes went 15.44 seconds in the 110 high hurdles.

When the Baldwinsville girls trackteam defeated Nottingham 94-38 and Henninger 103-29 last Wednesday afternoon, Lauren LaTourneau won twice for the Bees, going 14′ 1/2” in the long jump and clearing 4’10” to prevail in the high jump.

Nela Loftin had a top triple jump of 31’7 1/2” as Paige Bohman threw the discus 72 feet and B’ville also proved quite successful in distance races.

Margaret Solomon went 5:39.9 at 1,500 meters, with Kamryn Barton taking the 800 in 2:30.1 and Maddie Kennedy first in the 400 sprint in 1:01.7.

Barton, Kennedy, Ashlyn Davis and Brianna Grosso went 4:25.2 in the 4×400 relay as Solomon, Kennedy, Mary Sabatino and Elizabeth Conklin took the 4×800 in 10:32 flat. Natalie Bartkowiak, Aaniya Johnson, Kay Lynn Pine and Maddie Simons posted 52.9 seconds to win the 4×100.

All of this made Friday’s meet with Cicero-North Syracuse a bit easier to take, the Bees falling 90-49 to the Northstars but able to nearly shut out the third team present, Corcoran, by a score of 131-2.

Getting all of its victories in field events, the Bees saw LeTourneau take first place in the long jump, going 14’5” and then added a high jump victory by clearing 5 feet. Sydney McKenney joined in when she topped 10 feet in the pole vault. Loftin improved her triple jump to 32’11”.
