Marcellus girls track co-hosts invitational

Just before April concluded and kids returned to school, the Marcellus girls track and field team co-hosted its annual invitational meet with Skaneateles, featuring strong efforts from the host Mustangs, plus Westhill-Bishop Ludden and Jordan-Elbridge.

Marcellus got its lone win from the shot put, where Johanna Sylcox threw it 31 feet 6 ½ inches, well clear of South Lewis’ Jordan Lehman (30’2”) and the field, while Meg Blystone (25’11”) was seventh.

Mary-Catherine Coon made it to fourth place in the 100-meter dash in 13.25 seconds, also taking fourth in the high jump by clearing 4’10”. Morgan Gould finish fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:18.44 and, later in the meet, also get to fourth place in the 3,000 in 11:32.09.

The Mustangs’ Crystal Silliman was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.95, just ahead of Westhill-Ludden’s Zoe Fortin (1:05.66) in seventh place. Haley Randall was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.76 seconds, with Schuyler Stuart seventh in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.

Westhill-Ludden’s Katherine Doherty won the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, chased by, among others, Noelle Coolican, who was fourth by clearing 8’6”.

Doherty also got to second place in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.04 seconds, trailing only West Canada Valley’s Cora Maxwell, who won in 16.51 seconds as Katie DeVeyra (17.78 seconds) got fifth place before a fourth-place long jump of 14’10 ¾”.

Haylei Coolican, Annibel Cooilcan, Olivia Daigneau and Genny Corcoran were second in the distance medley relay in 13:26.02, trailing only Tully, who won in 12:17.49. Annibel Corcoran would get third place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:14.76, while Annibel Coolican later finished sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:14.40.

J-E saw Abby Gugel post a strong 1,500-meter time of 4:56.44 to get second place, though well back of Schalmont’s Julia Flower, who won in a swift 4:34.63. Theresa Dristle gained third place in the 800-meter run in 2:34.14, again with Flower prevailing in 2:16.33 by a big margin as Dristle went on to finish sixth in the pole vault.

The Eagles took second place (52.86 seconds) to Skaneateles (50.89 seconds) in the 4×100 relay, with Westhill-Ludden third in 53 seconds flat, and it was the same in the 4×400 for J-E as Gugel, Dristle, Julie Hines and Emily Klock got second place in 4:31.03, well back of the Lakers’ winning 4:06.75.

Hines was fourth (26.88 seconds) in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the high jump as her Eagles teammate, Mary Elizabeth Dristle, gave the Eagles a fourth-place time of 8:15.67 in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, with Olivia Minikhiem eighth.
