Fayetteville — From speaking with Jean Dally and Kathy Dix, owners of home décor shop Vintage 13066, there are two things they want to make clear — that these two women are not going anywhere, and they plan to expand their new business as wide as they can.
Vintage 13066 opened in November 2015 at 6901 E. Genesee St. in Fayetteville, in the building of DeWitt Sports-Syracuse Yacht Sales. The shop offers a large collection of unique and vintage home décor, as well as home stagings and interior design consultations. Many of the items sold are on consignment, and Dally explained they must keep prices low in order to allow regular turnover of items in the shop.
“It’s a shop of passion,” said Dally. “We pay attention to dimension and depth. We really like to help people who are looking to add to their collection, or are downsizing.”
Vintage 13066 has been open for about three months, and business has been going strong despite it being winter, a time where home decorating is not as widespread. Since opening, Dix said they have worked with dozens of staging clients, which are people who are looking to decorate their homes to appeal to potential buyers.
“Staging can be difficult because people are entrusting us to come into their house and look at it with a fresh view and move their beloved items around,” said Dix. “But seeing the end result and seeing a customer’s reaction is so rewarding.”
Both Dix and Dally said their meeting was “fate” and that they have grown to be great business partners, as well as friends, in a little over a year.
“We wake up every day looking forward to going to work. You can really tell we love it,” said Dally.
“We never have a dull moment,” added Dix.
continued — Dally is also the owner of The Barn in Cazenovia, a seasonal business that is open once-a-month for barn sales between March and November. This is where Dally got the idea to bring in interior design interns from local colleges, including Cazenovia College and Onondaga Community College, to get a hands-on experience of the interior design business.
Currently, there is a group of interns who are working with Dally and Dix at Vintage 13066. “We learn a lot from them, especially when it comes to suggestions for pricing. They always have great suggestions,” said Dix.
“Classrooms are wonderful to learn the basics of the industry, but getting a hands-on experience gives them an opportunity to see it in the real world” said Dally.
So far, the response from the community has been very positive, said Dally, and the shop has gained a substantial following on its Facebook page. Because of this outpouring of support, both Dix and Dally have high hopes for the future, and would like to expand to have another shop location if the success of this location continues.
“We really couldn’t ask for anything better,” Dally said.
