Event proceeds will help combat childhood poverty and fund cancer research
The Harlem Rockets basketball entertainers will take the court for “Hoopers 4 Hope” to benefit the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at East Syracuse Minoa Central High School’s gymnasium, hosted by ESM DECA.
In combining showtime basketball skills and family-friendly comedy, the Rockets will face Boeheim’s Ballers, a team of local sports media personalities and ESM staff. Proceeds will help combat childhood poverty and fund cancer research.
Having played over 2,500 games in 16 years without a single defeat, the Harlem Rockets offer something for everyone to enjoy. Sports enthusiasts will be intrigued by the athleticism and size of the Rockets and basketball aficionados will be dazzled by the long-range accuracy of “General Electric” Junie Sanders and thrilled by the extraordinary tricks and ball-handling skills of Solomom Bamira, a former Harlem Globetrotter.
Since this is comedy basketball, the Harlem Rockets present the All-Time Funny Man and one of show basketball’s greats: James “Speedy” Williams. He was featured in the movie, “Above the Rim” starring Tupac Shakur, and was one of the Original Nike free-style ballers featured in a Nike commercial. Speedy, better known as the “Crowned Prince of Laughs,” also performed live at the MTV Music Awards alongside Jay Z.
The Harlem Rockets incorporate the audience, especially children, into the show and will be available to meet the fans and give autographs at halftime and after the game.
Advance tickets ($8/students, $10/adults) are available at the high school or by contacting Tyler Nice at[email protected] or calling 315-882-6811. Tickets will cost an additional $2 at the door.
